| Your air conditioning system has an evaporator coil and drain pan, which is located above the furnace blower motor. The drain pan is connected to a PVC drain pipe, which drains to the outside of the house. Sometimes fungus/algae start to grow in the drain pipe and on the evaporator coil. When this gets bad, the condensate can overflow the drain pan and make a mess. It's a good idea to pour 8 parts water to 1 part Clorox bleach down the opening of the drain pipe twice a year, to keep the line free of fungus. If you suspect this is your situation, you might decide to call an HVAC technician to clean your evaporator coil. If left unattended, this can become a real health issue. |
