House Temperature does not reach setting on Thermostat
We have a digital control panel in our house to control our heating and air. We usually keep it set to 72 degrees. Lately (especially on really cold nights) the house will not heat properly and we wake up to a freezing home with a temperature in the low 60s. We tried setting the temperature up to 80 and it only changed the temperature to around 68 degrees in the house. The heat runs constantly but does not seem to improve the temperature. Any ideas or suggestions on what might cause this? Thanks so much!

What kind of heating system do you have? Heat pump? Forced-air gas? Electric? Once you can narrow that down for us, we might be able to help you better.

Do you have the thermostat in a place that is receiving direct heat from a vent? This will influence the settings.

Is the digital a new install or has it worked in winters past?

It is an electric system. It was installed when the house was built in 2004 and seemed to work properly at first. It was last year that it started this doing this. There are no issues when we use the air conditioning.

There are others on this site that are more expert than I am, but my guess is that you have either blown fuses, blown elements, or a sequencer problem. Obviously, the easiest thing for you would be the fuses. These will be inside the air handling unit.
Here is a good (technical) webpage that might help.
Best of luck,

Does furnace run constantly, or does it shut off. May be a thermostat problem. If it runs constantly, and doesn't heat the house, then follow wallyhelps advice.

My thought is that you have two sets of heating coils in your furnace and one of them is either burned in two, or a fuse on one of the coils is bad. This is not a simple repair job but if you have some knowledge in heating coils that run through ceramic spools then you might be able to do the job, if you determine that the problem is with one of the heating coils. If you have a volt meter and a amp meter it is easy to determine if this is the problem.

My thermostat is set on 76degrees. I like to lower it to 72 degrees at night , but the temperature does not go down and stay. It is clicking on and off frequently. Does the thermostat need to be replaced.

A/C temperature setting

Today, I am told by A/C serviceman that the thermostat setting should be 72 degrees regardless how high the outside temperature is. The reason is: every time the unit kicks on or off, it will use 240 volts, and a low setting will make A/C run non-stop, thus will save electricity. Any truth to...
