Why does my unit (attic) pop when it shuts off?

does it sound like sheetmetel popping? does it do it when the fan shuts down or when the burners go out? woops,didn`t ask,is it a gas furnace?,,,,next question,is are you sure the filter is clean and not obstructing the air flow
