Outside unit running but no air blowing from vents
Hi all, here is my question. I came home from work and the house was cool but I thought I smelled a slight burning scent. After a while I stopped smelling it so I forgot about it. About 2 hours later I noticed it was getting warmer in the house so I looke at the thermostat and the temp had gon from 70 to 78. The unit outside was working but no air was coming out of the vents. I checked all breakers and they are fine.
After an hour I turned on the thermostat and it worked for about 30 minutes and then it stopped blowing through the vents again.
My air handler is in the crawl space and I have not gone down there yet to check it out. I don't know anything about air handlers... is there a fan in there that could go bad? Since the outside unit is running it must be a problem with the air handler, right?
    Thanks!

From the sound of it either your blower motor on the inside unit is defective or it is a remote possibility the capacitor for that motor has failed. Many times when the capacitor has failed it can cause the motor to run hot (that is probably what you smelled). The capacitor and motor need to be checked out using the proper meters. If the motor needs replacement always replace the motor capacitor with a new one sized for the new motor.

One more item. It could also be that your evaporator coil is freezing up from your system being low on refrigerant. I thought I would mention this fact just in case the motor checks good.

NOTE: I would shut the power off to the outside unit until the indoor section is repaired.

It turned out to be the motor in the air handler. It's working fine now. Thanks!
But on a different note... I notice a lot of water condensating on the bottom of my air handler... a lot of water. The water from the drip pan is draining fine to the outside of the foundation through a 15 foot pvc pipe. Is all this water on the outside of the handler common because it's in the crawl space instead of the attic?
    Thanks!

If you do not have the floor of the crawl space covered with 6 mil vapor barrier it is. Crawls are always damp and the cold metal acts like another evaporator drawing the moisture to it.
