New Heat Pump does not turn off at temperature setting
I purchased a heat pump from a national company and it was installed in early January, 2008. When the thermostat is set, it will not get to that temperature, but usually stays 2 degree under and runs constantly. Only once or twice has it cut off by itself at the desired setting, and then only for 10 minutes or so. Defrost board and thermostat has been replace by installer. Also downstairs vent has been reduced to get more air flow to upsairs return. Is this the expected operation, and if not, what could be the problem, It is a 3- 1/2 ton unit for 3,000 square foot, brick home. Thanks.

Not a necessary expected operation. You have a warranty. You will void the warranty you mess with it. Call the dealer and have them fix. BTW some thermostats do vary 2 to 3 degrees.

Could be that the replaced unit is too small. What was the original heat pump condenser size? Did they also change out the fan coil? Do seers match?

What area of the country do you live and what are your winter temperatures?I need this for a sizing chart guess to see if your unit is to small.

I have a Goodman heat pump that's 5 years old (the original heat pump installed when the home was built). Today I turned the heat up from 65 to 70, the heat pump started running (it should have since it was less than 70 degrees in the house). Problem is, it got up to 75 degrees before I noticed...

Heat pump takes a long time (hour or more) to raise the temperature [ 19 Answers ]

An HVAC guy just installed a Carrier 13 SEER heat pump, model number 25HBR, to heat/cool (forced air) the upstairs (10 ft ceilings) of my house (2800 sq ft) in the Washington DC area. The downstairs and basement are heated/cooled by a gas furnace/AC system. So far, I'm disappointed that the heat...

Heat Pump blower, and heat, won't turn off- not contr. Bd. [ 0 Answers ]

I've read about blowers (heat pump) that won't shut off, no matter what done to thermostat, and the cause typically being a faulty control board, and/or fan relay on contl. Board. I replaced board, as tech removed green wire to demonstrate it's fault (didn't turn blower off), but tried a brand new...

AC unit won't turn off when on heat setting [ 3 Answers ]

I have an Amana furnace and for some reason the cool air keeps blowing out. Both the furnace and the ac unit seem to be running at the same time. Earlier today I was able to get hot air out of the vents, but now nothing but cold air. The thermostat is set to heat, so I don't know why the ac unit...
