How do you connect an in the wall heater

have a Intertherm electric heater that is under my stove. The
number on it is UCG 1000-24. I know it must be 20 years old. I
slides in a space under the stove and blows hot air onto the floor
to heat a room that is an addition to the house. It is not working and I am searching for a replacement. There is a heavy silver cable connected to it. This is the electrical connection and it plugs in the back of the unit. How do I connect the new unit. Do I need to hunt down the circuit and shut it off?
