House won't heat up past 59 degrees!
My fiancée and I are buying a new house. The heat has been turned down for the past few weeks to fifty four until we move in to conserve energy. We went there yesterday and turned it up to 65 so it can heat up for us to move in this weekend. After hours and hours of the heat running, the house has heated up to 59 degrees. No matter how many hours it runs, it just won't go above 59. What could be causing this problem? It is a baseboard heating system in an old house, but the furnace was put in new in 2004. Could it just be due to the cold temperatures outside and the old windows in the house, or are there other possililities that could be causing the house to not be able to heat up? Please help me... we are supposed to move in tomorrow and we can't do that of he heat won't go up any higher.

Is your system a boiler system? You said it had baseboard heat so that might mean it is a boiler. If you need heat right away you will be best served by calling a local heating company to get it repaired right away. Boilers are nothing for new inexperienced home owners to mess with. Since you are buying this house now is the time to hit up the owners for the repair to the unit. It should have been in good condition when you bought it. What did the inspection report say about the heating system? I am sure you did not make such a large purchase without a inspection.

Your system definitely needs professional repair. Could be something minor.

Heat Pump only works above 50 degrees [ 1 Answers ]

My heat pump only works in cool weather, not at all in cold. It only blows cold air in temps below about 45-50 degrees. I don't think the aux heater and/ or the emergency heat are coming on. Where do I need to go in the unit to check these components? Thanks
