Honeywell Thermostat RTH230B Blinking Battery Icon
We changed batteries in our thermostat when the blinking battery icon came on but the icon never stopped blinking and we don't have any heat. The fan comes on but nothing else. We purchased an new thermostat (same model) and no change. Same blinking light. What does this mean? Is it a thermostat problem? A wiring problem? Or, God forbid, a heater problem?

I appreciate any feedback you can give me. LeslieBN:confused:

Would start by replacing batterys one more time, if no help take new thremostat back and get another. Thermostats may sit on a shelf for some time, therefore, the batteries that come with them may be dead when you purchase the thermostat. Just start by replacing batterys with new batterys that are new from the hardware store. If this doesn't fix problem, let me know and we will take it one step at a time. What style of themostat do you have?

3.7 Battery Replacement Indicator
An icon appears when the batteries need replacement.
This icon will flash for 120 days, then the thermostat
will cut power to the heating/cooling unit. The icon disappears
once the batteries are replaced.
After replacing the batteries, readjust the time and day (see section
5.1). However, the temperature and program settings are saved and
do not need to be re-entered.
Warning: Before removing the batteries, place the
system switch on the thermostat to Off. Otherwise, the
heating/cooling unit might still be running even after
The batteries are removed.

Make sure the new batterys are good. Before batterys are replaced turn the power off then replace batterys. Then turn power back on. Make sure you are installing the batterys correctly. Pay attention to the + and - signs and how to place them in the thermostat. This will also cause problems.

Your owners manual below.

Leslie - did you ever get a fix for this problem? I've got the same problem and haven't seen anything in the responses that fixes my problem.
Wondering?

Short answer: In accord with the web instruction PDF file, 2 x AA-battery replacement worked according to design. Therefore, the value of this post is to merely reaffirm that the instructions are correct with respect to batteries [2 x AA] replacement in response to blinking battery icon warning.

Longer answer: Further, in accord with the instructions, reconfiguration merely consisted of entering real time [hour, minute, and day-of-the-week]. My previously entered set points had been retained, I'm pleased to report.

Good luck in getting the thermostat to operate correctly in both heat and cool modes.

I had this installed at my old house, no problem.
New house, battery blinks.
Replaced batteries, checked batteries. Still Blinks.
Set Time/Day, didn't go away.
Two wire setup (red/white), removed jumper. The other jumper is set to gas, just like it should be. There aren't too many other things I can mess with on this. I don't really see any solution above, when good batteries are installed, and there is still an issue.
Did everyone else find that new batteries solved this?

In case anyone is still having this issue, it turned out for me that even a brand new set of Rechargables kept this light on. As soon as I got a pack of Alkaline's... BOOM... Problem solved, and my heat is on.

Don't use rechargables in this thing...

I had the same issues. Brand new, non-rechargable batteries and still flashing. I inserted the batteries backwards, waited 15 seconds, inserted them correctly and no more flashing.

This happened after a storm... tried everything from cleaning chargets to removing and trying a hard reset by removing the wires that connected it. I almost gave up because I thought it might be the furnace and snow came so then one last attempt with taking out the be batteries again and placing them in backwards AGAIN only this time left them in for over 30 minutes as opposed to 5 and finally the light stopped blinking and got my heat back on. Once I started to program the light started blinking again but the heat is still running strong so will probably buy new thetmostat soon.

Putting regular batteries in it solved the issue for me! Rechargeable do not work!
