    Heater won't stop running
I have a Frifidaire central heating & air conditioning system 2 years old. Today we set thermostat to cool and the heater continues to run and will not shut off by thermostat control. Pulled the thermostat and heat continues to run. Currently off as I switched off the breaker at the outside unit. Can I fix this myself? Thanks

Chances are you can fix it. I may even be able to explain how with some more details. Is this a heat pump? I don't have enough experience to be sure.

Likely the problem is a stuck relay or valve. On the newer systems, the relays usually are on a control board. The boards are much easier to change than pay for. If the unit is stuck in heat mode, it is trying to heat the house until it is below the set temperature. Won't work. Any chance of it still being in warranty?

Thanks for the response. The unit may still be under warranty as this is a new home. Strangely, it began working properly last night. I had switched the site breaker on the unit to off for 24 hours. When I turned it back on last night the unit cycled with the thermostat throughout the night and this morning. I should probably expect it to happen again though don't you think?

Most likely Friday night when you have guests for the weekend and the weather is beastly.
