Heat pump condensing unit will not shut off

My heat pump condensing unit has been running for several hours now without shutting off. It is blowing out cool air. When I turn unit off manually and turn back on, you can feel the heat for a few minutes and then it goes back to cool. Please help....

I am not a HVAC mechanic but in the last two weeks, I had the same symptoms you are describing, called my HVAC company and they diagnosed the problem as a stuck valve in the compressor that required a new compressor. The mechanic ran a series of electrical test on the connections on the inside air handler and we brought to his attention unusual noises coming from the outside unit/compressor. I would have an experienced HVAC out to diagnose the problem.

Get a qualified HVAC tech to check it out. Sounds like the reversing valve or the coil for it is bad

Esquire1 might be right, he mentioned the reversing valve might be bad, that's exactly what was wrong with my compressor and I was told by the HVAC mechanic that the compressor had to be replaced.
