Hello, I have central AC/Heat and the heat portion doesn't appear to be working. New to home and have not ever had it working. Is there any common problems that anyone can let me know of so I can check them out. When the heat is on, it blows air, just not hot air.

Is the system gas or electric?

Sorry I forgot to mention, it's electric.

The first thing to check would be the element(s). You'll need to identify where the ends of it/them are bolted in - and use a multimeter to check them for continuity. Can you make it that far?

If not, what make and model is the unit? I'll see if I can find a diagram for you.

I feel stupid asking this but I know it's a centurion unit, how would I find the model number?

There is a data plate installed on the unit. It will have model # and serial # on it.

While models will vary as to where stuff is, the basic setup - and troubleshooting steps - for most electric furnaces is the same... and they are relatively simple.

I actually failed to mention another common cause, and that is burnt wires.

Shut off the electricity to the furnace.

- If you find a burnt wire or wires, replace them.
- Make sure all connnections are tight.

If after this you still don't have heat, the most basic of repair manuals for electric furnaces should help you solve the problem. It's a good thing to have since most electric heat problems are able to be diagnosed by a diy'er, as long as you have a meter.

I'd head over to Lowe's or Home Depo's diy book rack and browse them for one that includes a section for electric furnaces. The hour and $20 it costs you to get one will prove invaluable for a variety of home repairs.
