Have a brand new carrier perf93 gas furnace that makes LOWD humming sound when on.
I'm told nothing is wrong with the unit. It was billed as a very quiet machine however it is so lowd it disrupts my living area. The intake vent is right between dinning room and living room. Have to speak up if it come on - TV volume has to go up because the humming motor sound is so loud. In the evening the house is quiet except when that motor goes on and makes noise until temp. is reached. Serv. Person out said nothing wrong with the unit. Suggest trying to muffle noise with insulation but that is not helping. They basically said the intake should not have come in to the house should have been in another area to make it quiet. This unit replaced an old one that came with the house which is 25 years old. I asked if they possibly gave us a unit that was too big for our home? They insist it is not their unit but the layout. Any thoughts or better yet, solutions- before I yank it out and hawl it to Carrier and dump it on their front lot?

At what point during the operating sequence does this occur? Can you tell which component is the source of the noise? There have been some problems with inducer vibration on similar Bryant (Carrier's "cousin") products, and the noise can be transmitted through the combustion venting and/or ductwork. I would hope your installing contractor should be willing to address the situation to your satisfaction.
