furnace makes a big boom!

sometimes when my heat kicks on it makes a loud firey sound like its flame is booming. hard to explain. anyone know what i might be refering to?

Sounds like too much gas is accumulating before it ignites. I am not sure I should suggest much more than cleaning the ignitor or pilot light. Be gentle with the ignitor. I laugh every time my spell check suggests DIE in place of DIY. If cleaning doesn't do it, maybe let the tech laugh all the way to the bank.

Yes, I had the same situation. I contacted the local power company and they sent a technician out, it seems I just needed to have my furnace cleaned. Have since done so,
and is "quiet as a mouse."

Yes, this delayed combustion is almost always do to a dirty burner, pilot or flame extender rod.
