    Electric Furnace
My electric furnace will work perodically, I'm not sure of the brand or model, it's in a 1986 doublewide. It will run and heat fine for a few days, and then it will just stop for a day or so, then start again. Inside the furnace panel I can hit the rocker switch to the ON position, instead of AUTO and the fan runs fine, but no heat of course. I assume it's not the fan. I can't seem to find a trigger to make it come back on until its ready to. Could it be the wire running from the furnace to the Thermostat? Maybe a bad connection or something? Any ideas?

Jumper the white and red wires at the thermostat or tie them together, does the furnace come on and work normal,, This bypasses the stat and it will run until you untie them .if this happens you prob. Need a thermostat,, if it still doesn`t work then you no it's the furnace that needs looked into,

Intermmitent operation often is a bad connection. Iagree with most of the above, but you may just need to tighten the wires rather than replace the thermostat.

Actually, I have already replaced the thermostat because it was doing this. That didn't seem to fix the problem. Could it actually be the wire running from the furnace to the thermostat? Or, something within the furnace?

More than likely it is a defective sequencer in the furnace causing this problem. You will have to test the sequencer when the problem is happening to check for current flow.

A sequencer can have many jobs. They can bring on the fan, activate the heat, act as a time delay. Your furnace should have a wiring diagram on the inner part of the door to help you find the part. Many times heat /blower sequencers are intermittent.

Bingo! That seemed to fix the problem. I replaced the sequencer and it's been running fine without any issues.

    Thanks.
