The code of E6 is telling you that your heat pump is stuck in defrost mode. You need to check the defrost board and low voltage wiring on the board.

I guess i misunderstood the question. The defrost thermostat may be stuck closed on the heat pump. You can remove the electrical cover on the heat pump and short out the test pins on the defrost board with a screwdriver while its running. When it goes into defrost mode remove the wire marked DFT from the board if it switches back your chances of a stuck defrost thermostat are good. Only attempt to do this if you know electrical. Your body can take volts but it only takes one amp to kill you.
