Can I connect a honeywell rth2300 thermostat with only 2 wires coming out of the wall

Asked Nov 14, 2010, 04:44 PM — 3 Answers
I am trying to install a honeywell rth2300 programmable thermostat, but there are only 2 wires coming out of the wall and attaching to the old school thermostat. Will I be able to install this thermostat or do I need a different model? I am connecting only to a furnace, no ac. Thanks Po

There was a similar post a day or two ago. Heta only; Red goes to RH and White goes to White. From the manual I saw, you need to remove the red jumper that is between RC and RH. Should work. Hope this helps. Brian

Hi Brian,
I spoke with Honeywell help desk, but they weren't able to assist since the old thermostat didn't have any letter designations for the terminals that the white and black wires from the wall were attached to. They suggested I trace the wires back to the furnace. That I did with the help of the furnace installation manual. A bit more investigation and I determined that the black wire was the red wire and white wire was in fact white. All hooked up and working fine.
Thanks so much for your help.
