a/c quit...burning smell

hello
AC upstairs just quit working, downstairs is fine. I reset the green button on my AC unit in the basement and I got a burning smell thru the vents. Still AC is not working upstairs. Do I need to do something to the outside unit? Any suggestions

sounds like a shot transformer,,,does the inside unit,airhandler work,,,,i`m kinda confused never have I seen anyone have a a/c unit (condenser ) inside a basement ,it is supposed to be outside and the furnace /airhandler is inside
