    Air Conditioning Maintenance
    Dear Forum,

How do I get to remove fine cement dust, caked on evaporator coil, off the coils - without damagingthe fins - in order to improve heat exchange.

My air conditioner is located in a cement production environment. During its operation, cement dust settles on the coils and starts to cure immediately. I have tried cautic soda but this seems to make it even harder.

    Thanks

Head to nearest HVAC supply house and tell them you want some foaming coil cleaner for the condensing unit. There is a difference in cleaners used for the condenser(Outdoor unit) and the indoor coil, so make sure you get the correct one...

Is this your home? Business? First off, if there is enough cement dust floating around to solidify in your AC - you have a potentially serious health hazard. Cement is caustic and can irritate the nose and airways. Long term exposure to cement containing silica (sand) can lead to silicosis - an irreversible scarring of the lungs that can ultimately be fatal. You and our family (if applicable) need to be out of this environment ASAP. See this link:

Secondly, good luck in getting solidified cement out of your coil - nothing short of dynamite will remove it.
