My ac unit is leaking in the garage, I have a split unit. The box it sits on just started leaking the other day, someone told me that I could fix it with a shop vac. Is this true? Other than the leak it cools just fine and is only 4 years old.
As an AC cools water condenses as the air conditioner processes the hot air. When you install a window mount a.c. you angle it so the water drips onto a area that will not be a problem. Apparently you didn't realise this when you installed it? Or was it installed already? You should be able to attach a tube over where the water comes out of the A.C. and direct that tube to dump the water where it will not be a problem.
Look for a drain coming out of the bottom of the unit. Usually they are a white 3/4'' PVC pipe. Follow it to the other end. As suggested, apply a shop vac. It should pull the crud out allowing the condensate to drain. If that doesn't work, take the drain loose where ti come out of the unit and blow compressed air into the pipe. The A/C drains are small, often have too many elbows, and stop up easily. It is a pain, but you just have to clean them sometimes.
