    Medicaid eligibility
My husband just lost his job and I do not work, we are insured for one month before we lose coverage. How can I tell if we are eligible for medicaid? If he takes a new job that doesn't provide health insurance, how would we go about finding affordable insurance for our family if he makes a base of $20,000 and commissions on top of that? Are commissions included when medicaid eligibility is determined?

Yes commissions are included as income when looking at medicaid

And to be honest the 20,000 is going to make it too high for medicaid ( at least in my state) In my state, TN, you can get medicaid for your children if you have a higher income than for adults, So depending on how much his commossions are, for the children you may be aid for dependent children and medicaid.

Here in TN for a family of 3, your income has to be less than 750 per month for the adults to get medicaid. ( these numbers will differer by state) So the only way to be sure is to apply.

Here in TN for example a family of 3 with no one working but the one person getting unemployment, makes too much for the famiy to get anything but food stamps.

The cost of private health insurance will vary by age, by the health and so on. If you are healthy and are in your late 30's health insurance can cost around 300 a month for a couple. With a deductable of 1500 or so.
