Sata external HDD not seen by computer
I have a new computer with a sata hard drive installed. I am trying to connect and external sata hard drive to the USB 2 port, but it is not seen in My Computer or Windows Explorer. It also came with an e-sata connection which I have not used. Am I not doing something right?

In Windows 2000 or later, the drive should show up in Device Manager and Administrative Tools Disk Management console. The drive needs to be initialized, formatted, and have a drive letter assigned in Disk Management. If you're using Windows 98, USB drivers need installation.

Presumably, the drive is in an external enclosure. Verify the internal power and data connections were connected to the drive and that the enclosure's external power adapter is connected and any power switches on.

Posting technical details of your setup may yield more conclusive troubleshooting.
