finding h and g drives

i got this computer from grandma and need to update the windows on it...cant cause the places where i put the discs are not showing up on anything. when i use run it says it is not there and i should look elsewhere for it. please advise...thanks

Double-click on "My Computer", do you see the CD/DVD drive there?
