external harddrive

hi good day i try to connect my external harddrive but its not work nothing comes up i think its the jumper starter could u tel me how to connect it so it works please thanks

It would be helpful if you give operating system -- brand of computer

And it would be great if you give information on hard drive

External drives need drivers on your computer -- installed???

You can never give too much information to help someone know
