Data recovery from formatted hard disk
How can I recover data from a formatted harddisk . I had inserted recover cd and the system hung without going any further. Im afraid the c drive must have been formatted.
    Please advice

You will probably need to pay a recovery service or purchase software that MAY be able to recover from a format.

I agree with Scott, if this information is important to you, get it looked at by a professional. You could possibly do more permanent damage to the data by trying to retrieve it yourself!

I agree with both Scott, and Stu.However,I did find this link:

    http://www.uneraser.com/

It is $49:99 to buy on-line,but maybe you can find it locally?
Always remember, although various products may claim to be the "ultimate gizmo",at the end of the day,"lost" or deleated files never always return in full condition.I bought TuneUp utilities,a few months ago,and accidentally deleated an important file, without backing it up.Even using undelete, the software told me that the "returned file" was in bad shape. In otherwords, once it's gone,it's gone.

    Thank you Guys
Looks like the hard disk has some sectors which cannot be read. Moreover hard disk itself is visible only sometimes as slave . I suspect controller failure myself . Data is not so important when I compare the cost involed . At the most I might be losing IE favourites .
    Cool Thank you once again.

Here is an excellent free software you might try. I have used it with almost 100% recovery on a few occasions when my external drives lost their hardware recognition and file allocation tables:

    Good luck. Take care.
