Tri-color hair.
So... I've had a hair color disaster. I've never dyed my hair before. I have light brown hair that has a LOT of blonde and reddish highlights naturally. I've always spent a lot of time in the sun and the pool and my hair usually just highlights itself. Well, as I've gotten older and I don't spend as much time in the sun... sometimes in the past few years I'll put lemon juice or a little sun in just in the front of my hair just on the piece that frame my face. It's always worked... until now. This past summer I put sun-in in the front of my hair and accidentally left it in too long turning my front locks a bit orange. I went to the drug store and put an ash blonde over the orange (just in the front mind you.. where it was orange) and it fixed the problem, leaving the front a pretty blonde slightly lighter than my natural color. Two months later I developed roots because the new color was slightly lighter. I applied the same l'oreal or clariol medium ash blonde color just on the roots, just in the front and it took care of the roots, no problem. Well! Last week I decided to again "fix" my roots and it turned my head orange! It was the same box, the same color and I turned the front of my head orange! I thought (stupidly) I could fix the problem by adding a slightly darker ash blonde color over top... instead, it just made it worse turning parts a greenish grey.
SO. I went to a very expensive aveda Salon where because I'd used the ashe blonde... they tried to "match" (they must be kidding!) my lt. brown/dark blonde hair color... but they added red to the mix to cancel out the greenish tones. Mind you, I'd only dyed the front and they dyed MY ENTIRE HEAD. I'm naiive to it all so I didn't know any better...
For about a week I had bright red hair. I'm not sure if because I had hair that picked up red highlights already that's why it turned so red? They said that the red would fade leaving me a golden brown color. I have SERIOUS doubts about that.
SO. A friend of mine's sister owns another very expensive aveda/bumble salon and recommed I consult with them. They recommended not redying my whole head... but adding highlights and lowlights to just add depth and attempt to make my hair not looks so RED. I think the brown is TOO brown, the blond TOO blond, and the red TOO red.
I have tri-colored hair!! Obviously I can't redye my hair at this point, I think too much has been done already. The overall effect from afar is not that far off my original hair color. But for some reason the too light blonde next to the too dark brown mainly in the front... leaves that area looking a bit like a brunette going grey. I'm afraid to do anything to my hair, afraid to go back to the salon... I will NEVER do anythign to my hair again...
But is there ANYTHING I can do to just help... possibly fade the darker tones? Obviously I've read about using prell, hot oil, etc... but I'm afraid to do anything for fear of what it might do ? ANY advice? I have long hair and this is TERRIBLE. I've considered cutting it to my chin but I hope to get married in the next year and I don't want short short hair or a funky color for my wedding!
Please help!
