    Stripping black hair at home
    Hey everyone,

After many hours searching the net I finally found this site...

I am a natural blonde and dyed my hair red, then purple, then brown and eventually blue black. Now I want to go back up to red...

I went to the hairdresser today and they quoted me well over £100 to strip the colour. From there I went to Sally's and bought the Goldwell Color Remover, I also have a dark plum dye ready to colour my hair again after I have removed the black.

I have been washing my hair in washing up liquid for the last three weeks and some of it has lifted to a dark brown but most of it is still black, apart from approx 1 inch of blonde roots.

I read the instructions and they said that after I have rinsed the color remover off to add 10% developer for 3 minutes, so I bought that too.

I'm thinking about stripping the colour then leaving in treatment conditioner over night and then colouring with the red the next day.

Has anyone used these colour remover kits before to go from black to red?

Any advice would be truly appreciated

    Thanks :)

It's very hard to remove permanent black hair dye from your hair. Hair color removal products will not completely remove black hair dye. Your best bet is to bleach out the black hair pigments and then apply your desired color.

Bleaching or stripping can weaken or damage your hair it it's not done correctly. You may want to go to the salon to have it professionally done.

I Used to be bright blonde and stupidly decided to dye my hair brown I had this done at a salon. I then used a home kit and went over it in red , so now I have reddy brown hair.
I did this about 2 months ago
I now want to dye it back blonde , I went to a good local salon who did a strand test and results came out orange
I Don't know what to do , can I get it stripped and dyed blonde ? Or do I have to wait for the colour to grow out ?
    Please Hellpppp!!
    Thanks

By the time you have stripped your hair and then bleached it. The chances are it will be severely damaged. This is not a very good idea if you want to keep your hair in good condition.

However I'm naturally blonde and dyed my hair to a very dark brown before.
It took several bleaching sessions at home over a period but I got it back blonde again. It wasn't in the best condition afterwards as it was left quite dry and brittle.

Id say it is possible to get your hair blonde again depending on the damage your willing to take on. Id suggest consulting a hairdresser to see how much the stripper will damage your hair, so you can decide whether your hair will even be able to withstand the peroxide in the bleach that will be needed to take your hair back to blonde. Besides red is always a nasty colour to get out so simply bleaching it may just lead to very light orange shades.

    Hope this helps x

Just to give you a bit of background info. :)
I been dying my hair for about 10 years but never had any idea about stripping hair or anything. A few years ago had dark brown hair and did streaks at home which turned out horrible.

I went and got a lightener which i thought would make my hair blonde all over. However it turned out with bright blonde roots and orange hair. I freaked out and bought a blonde hair dye to correct it and it worked.

It's not until i did some research i realise why it did it. If you strip dark colour from your hair it will go a whacky colour, most likely to dry it out but if you leave it conditioned overnight and then apply the desired colour it will probably take.
I recommend that a small trim after you have dyed it too.
Hope this helps, just take abit of a chance.:p

Hiya I've just bought 2 boxes of goldwell color remover as I have got natural blonde (ash) hair andi stupidly dyed it intense dark brown I've been doing this for two years now and I added up how much I spend on dye a year and it totals £2000! I can't be botherd doing it any more, my question is - is this goldwell stuff going to work? I had it highly bleech 2 years ago when I again went from brown back to blonde and my myhair went bright orange underneth and blonde on top so this time round I only want the color removed from the top half of my head. Has anyone used ths goldwell before? N if so did it work?
    Thanks x

Hi I've been colouring my hair for over 10 years now and have recently just discovered hair strippers, and have found some to be quite good but also some to be quite average at the same time.

I have layers upon layer of bleach in my hair an have also had foils in that then coloured brown few more times again, recently used a stripper an found it seemed to almost lift some of the bleach out as it took it to the bleach but when I rinsed and repeated it was more a redish almost blonde colour, which was quite surprising considering this was only a cheap stripper id bought from a chemist and had used others before and all it took it back to was the bleach.

No stripper will remove black though generally depending on your natural level of hair colour, generally will only work if artificial colour is no more than 2 or 3 shades darker.

Hiya, Im naturally Blonde and I liked to mess around with colours I'm 13 and after many weeks of begging my mam she allowed me to dye it permanently black. I'v had the black for about at year now but I'm missing my Blonde hair. My mam wouldn't let me bleach my full hair because she said she's kill it and that was two months ago so I asked her this morning and she said OK and bought me some colour stripper but after looking on Google I've found many people say I have to get it professionally and that if me and my mam try it at home then it'll get killed. I love my hair but I'v always died my hair at home and its far to expensive at the salon... What colour will it go if I do strip it, I thought it was ginger but I don't know...
    HELP ME PLEASE
    ,thank you xx

My hair is very dark too after lots of dying and I want to go lighter... but I daren't take the risk of stripping the hair myself or bleaching because I think my hair will probably get too damaged. I might just try a few highlights instead. Lol x

My natural haircolor is Dark Brown. I had it bleached many years ago and dyed it light blonde. I've just dyed my roots and used Goldwell's Sea Sand color since then. Then last month (what was I thinking! ) I decided to use Demi permanent Mocha color (I was told it's a semi perm color and comes out in a few shampoos)It grabbed on to my blonde hair color so fast!! I later decided to go back to my blonde color, I used Goldwell's color remover, it only helped very little- my hair turned out orange... I then used Goldwell's Sea Sand color with 30 developer and added Goldwell's Blue Ash to counteract and take out some of the red,my haircolor looks more like a light light brownish yellow- has very little little ginger color on it... I just want my blonde color again... every time you use a Goldwell color and want to take out most of the red - try putting Goldwells Blue Ash in the hair color mix. Hope this helps...

Hi, I'm 15 and for the past 2 years I have been dying my hair, brown, red, purple, black! I am currently in the process of stripping my hair. I have spent £15 on 3 boxes of hair colour remover from B&Ms and so fair its taking the black out of my hair:)
The first time I used it was 2/3 weeks ago and it came out redish with my natural colour within the results. The 2nd time was 1 week ago and my hair had a tint of red but is generally brown with a few strands still black. I'm going to strip my hair once more at home but concentrate on the sides of m hair as they are the darkest!:)
Finger crossed I finish with my natural brown hair colour:)

Hair colour remover hasn't damaged or weaken my hair either! :-)

My hair colour is naturally light brown, I died it blonde then dark brown and then black... since my straightners broke and I haven't bought new ones my hair has got rather long and healthy and I love it, but I'm bored of my colour and want to go back blonde, without having bleach on my hair or any other toxins. Ive heard some random things that can get dark hair dye off like fairy washing up liquid and baking soda but I haven't found anything that I can trust to try:/ can anyone help?
