Removing Hair Dye from Hair... Please Help!!!

Dear Readers,

I really need someones help. I had a neutral dark blonde with blonde highlights and decided it would be fun to go darker. I looked online and found the color and even used a computer generated website to put it on my face and make sure the color would look okay.

I brought in the picture and the hair color specified to a hair dresser and she dyed my hair. Well, the color did not come out right. The ends of my hair were still blonde-brown and it looked awful!!! The hair dresser herself even said. "Oh we could have gone a shade darker. This is still really light."

Horrified I put on a hat and went to Rite Aid found the color I wanted and did a home dye job thinking I could do a better job. Hah... it was L'Oreal Warm Chocolate Mousse (Darkest Mahoganey Brown) and It came out DARK PURPLE RED. I have no idea what the box was talking about brown. I looked like girl from the Alias show with DARK RED SHOULDER LENGTH HAIR.

So the next day I went back to a professional at a different salon and she said that we could either dye it a darker color completely! OR , WE COULD TRY TO BREAK IT UP WITH SOME DARK ASH BROWN HIGHLIGHTS. I opted for highlights thinking it would be less damaging and THE PURPLE IS STILL TOO MUCH. The highlights helped, but the didn't help enough especially IN THE DAY TIME WHEN THE SUN HITS IT.

My friend advice I go get it color corrected at a salon, but I have already paid so much money I don't really want to. Plus, I am losing my faith in salons, however, I am in a little town.

I used PRELL SHAMPOO AND BOUGHT SOME DAWN DISH DETERGENT. It didn't really see any color coming out in the shower at all. It was a permanent dye that I bought at Rite Aid and has been just over 72-hours now.

I WAS THINKING ABOUT BUYING COLOR ZAP OR COLOR FIX AT A BEAUTY SUPPLY SHOP, BUT WILL THAT EVEN HELP ME GET BACK TO A SHADE OF BLONDE...OR AT LEAST GET RID OF THE RED-PURPLE!!! YIKES! When I go out people look at my hair like YIKES!!!

Are there any other home remedies that will get rid of red-purple? Will color fix or color zap work? Should I just go see a specialist? Will my hair fall out? Will it be super damaged? Should I just shave my head?

I AM SO LOST ON WHAT TO DO..... SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME.

Using an ash color with a green base will neutralize any red tones in the hair. Orange base colors neutralizes purple or violet tones. Your hair seems to have more red in it than purple, therefore, I would use an ash with a green base to get red of the red tones. If your hair is previously colored, that color does not remove artificial pigment. To go lighter, you're going to need to bleach your hair and then apply your desired color. Another option is to use a hair color removal product, however, it can turn your hair a brassy color such as orange or beige and you will have to re-color your in order for it to look natural.
