hairmistakes, I'm sorry that I'm not actually answering any of your questions, but I wanted to ask you something. Is the 28 day hair dye Clairol Natural Instincts by any chance. I dyed my hair with it two days ago and have been reading that it doesn't come out,you said your dye did start fading, if it is that it would be of great relief to me :) please and thanks.

Hi. I've just been reading up on removing permanent black dye from hair and I think I would like to try this technique. So what is a 20 vol developer? I have about 6 layrs of perm black and I just need to know the best way to lighten it so I can dye it to either a medium brown or light golden brown. I don't mind a slow gradual process. Also I saw on another thread that a lady used a bleach and then added shampoo and conditioner to it, what is your opinion on this?

Thats because we're removing all the dark layers first, what's left is red before it turns blonde. I also wrapped it in plastic wrap and zapped it with the hair dryer for about 20 minutes. Once my hair reached the right stage of lightness, I rinsed the bleach from the hair. I shampooed and used the moisturing treament heavily and wrapped it again in plastic wrap and left it in for a couple of hoursl. Afterwards, rinse it and color it using a toner or something mild.
    Good Luck!
Hi I'm doing some research for my own hair problem and this is one of my 2 favorite posts. My hair is dyed perm black and so as I read I was wondering if it is necessary to use the hair dryer, and if so do I need to have it wrapped? ALSO can you physically see it going through lighter shades or do I need to wash it and reapply a few times to see this? AND does adding shamp & cond help it to lighten more slowly in order to keep an eye on the progress?

OMG!! My natural hair color is brown. But wanted to go darker. Got tired of dark brown hair, I've had it for 4 yrs & now wanted a change. I went to the salon in a mall. They used volume 20 with some other stuff that I don't know. The stylist tried to bleach out the dark color and she repeated this 2 more times. I was under the dryer twice and I hair is still in patches. She couldn't get my hair to one even tone. And my roots are so much lighter than the rest of my hair. I look like a leopard. I'm so sad & upset. The salon is suppose to be the professional. I was at the salon from 5:45 pm till 9:30 pm. Please help... Can I do anything to get one tone back...

I'm a cosmetolgist. I removed color from my hair that was a level 4 dark red-brown. I used a product called Efasal(spelling may be wrong and can only be purchased by a licensed cosmetologist). Then used bleach with 40 volume after. Ended up being a light orange/blonde. Use toner to achieve the color you want after.

So I have natural dark brown almost black hair, and I got highlights and didn't like them so I dyed my hair dark black so it would cover it up, that's been about 7 months ago! So now I'm sick for the dark black and want to go for blond or a light light brown. I have color fix on my hair right now to strip all the color out.

Once I get done with the color fix I'm going to be applying a protein conditioner for extremely damaged hair. Then I will be using Wellite powder lightener with a 30 developer, then I will go to the loreal quick blue powder bleach with 30 developer, after that I will apply a toner to my hair.

Is there any tips anyone can give me to make this process go faster & look better!

I also got a really good deep conditioner because I know my hair is going to be very dry and britial.

I'm planning on waiting a day or so between things so that it will give my hair a little while to rest but today is Saturday and I need this done my Tuesday morning!

    ANY help will be appericated!

    (1) I had mousse brown hair

    (2) I dyed it permently blonde twice

    (3) The lime in our shower water turned it orange

    (4) I tried to dye it back to my original colour with a semi-permanant

    (5) the semi turned my hair tomato red

    (6) I used a permentant dark brown to cover it up

    (7) now it is red/brown

I want my original colour back, I don't have patience or bravery to grow it out.
I want to get it stripped. My hair is healthy and I've been walking around the last couple of days with it loaded in conditioner. I need peoples advice.
    Should I :
    a. Grow it out (not what I want to do)
    b. chop it (deffo not what I want to do)
    c. Get it stripped (what I want to do)
    d. Other ?

Need your advice (btw I have my hair in a pixie cut at the mo if that helps)

You could try clerifying shampoo if you want it to fade faster I dyed my hair semi. Permanent black worst choice ever! And I used color oops to get it out and it's basically the same thing as color zap and all those other ones but anyway it does work but it will give you a redish orange blonde color not your natural color then your going to need to redye your hair afterwards but remember to go a few shades lighter than the color you want so it will go to that color and not just back to black because if you choose a color close to black it will go back to black!

To all you people out there - I have one piece of advice. Don't COLOR YOUR OWN HAIR AT HOME WITH THE BOX COLOR FROM THE GROCERY STORE. Its really the stupidest thing you can do to your hair. You're KILLING it by doing that. There are metallic salts in those colors that completely damage your hair. Even if you have to go into fantastic sams and pay the minimum... their prices are much more worth it when it comes to the integrity of your hair. And you will NEVER get the color you want off the box color. EVER. It never works that way. That stuff is terrible. Obviously once you've done it, you can't go back. BUT... from now on... seriously, don't do it. Just don't. Do. It.

    That is all.

Any kind of store bought product and color from cvs or regular stores is damaging and you never really know exactly what to expect after using them... also, if you have been using box color for long and decide to go to a salon to get your hair colored professionally having previous box color may affect the service you want because sometimes they have unknown ingredients that can cause weird reactions on the hair... I don't know much about box color because I study at a cosmetology school so we focus on prof products only. If you go to a beauty store such as sallys you should be able to find a safe color remover... rusk, paul mitchelll, goldwell, and malibu all have a great line of removers and are much less damaging then bleach. They won't strip out all color if you have a lot of build up but it will lighten your hair noticeably and you can repeat it if necessary about 2 no more than 3 times at once, unlike bleach baths which can lift unevenly and turn your hair copper and also very damaging.. hope this helps!

So what do you expect people to do if they can't afford the salon every time a color or root retouch is needed? I have premature (early 20s) gray hair. Not a few hairs. I. have. Gray/white hair. I have to touch up my roots every 2 weeks or I look like a skunk. I have naturally very dark brown hair, which is the hair color I use. My only option is self coloring due to money constraints. I'm not wasting my money on crack, booze, cigarettes, or any other stupid vice. I pay my bills and take care of my family with my salary. I really mean I can't spend the additional to have my hair taken care of at a salon. Since you're a professional stylist, please honestly tell me what you'd do in my situation if you couldn't afford to pay for these services. I use a permanent dark brown every 2 weeks on my roots and do an all-over color every 2 months or so to keep it all somewhat consistent.
