    Questions in hair coloring
I have a few questions in hair coloring.:)
#1. Is it true that dying your hair too much causes "white hairs"?
#2. If you dye your hair with non-amonnia is safer than ammonia dyes?
#3. What do I have to do, to go more than 3 shades lighter without getting reddish tones?
#4. Why is it that when I dye my hair the very top (the roots) gets the richest shades than the bottom (the ends)?
#5. how many months does the "permanent" hair color last?

If you color your hair too much, it will dry out your hair or damage it. However, coloring your hair won't cause your hair to turn white. The only way your hair will turn white is if you bleach it with hair bleach. Aging and stress can also make your hair gray or white, it's called "salt and pepper" hair color.

Ammonia is not toxic to the body and is necessary for some colors to cover gray or lighten the hair. People with sensitive scalp use ammonia-free hair dyes.

You will need to bleach your hair and then apply your desire color.

Sometimes the heat close to the scalp can cause the color to process much faster at the roots than at the ends.

Permanent hair color will last until your hair grows out. You will need to have your roots touched up every 4-6 weeks to maintain the color.

Probably too late for this but... I am 60 years old and have been coloring my hair at home for years very happily with L'oreal. Some shade of red; medium auburn I think. Anyway, all of a sudden it turned quite dark and I dedided to just let it grow out. The laugh is on me. It won't. Winter time is here and I am not out doors much so my hair is not growing much either so getting the color cut off is out too. If I do, I will have to be almost bald :)) Is there a color remover out there that won't damage my hair? I've been to 2 salons and they both recommended complete bleaching and re-coloring. I am not willing to do that. Especially since they said that sometimes reds do not lift well. I wonder if L'oreal had a bad batch of hair color out there... why did it turn dark all of a sudden when it's the same color I've been using for years?

All About Hair Coloring [ 8 Answers ]

Your hair is a mixture of 3 colors; red yellow, and blue. These are the primary colors. Secondary colors are orange, green, and violet. If you look at the "wheel" a color opposite (directly across) will "negate" that color. This means if your hair is a orange color - green will make it a brown...
