How do I remove permanent hair dye?
I recently dyed my hair an auburn red ;) colour, and though I like the colour, it makes it feel somewhat unnatural and stringy. Is there any way to remove the colour to go back to natural softness of natural hair?- basically stripping the colour. Does anyone know any products or does it have to be done professionally?
    Thanks, emma

Stripping is a combination of hair bleach and conditioner.. red is the hardest to get out. When trying a new color always go semi permanent that fades out. With blonde hair id suggest regular dish soap to lighten it, but it won't do much with your auburn color. The only way to get it out is professionally or coloring over it darker. I know that hair may seem like a lot of money to get done professionally, but its worth it.. I mean.. its your head!! That's the first thing people see! You can save money at the salon by explaining that you just want some highlights (maybe not blonde) but some lighter color through out to get the box color out. You have to do this overtime as red colors fade fast but do not actually come OUT fast. Know what I mean? P.s. Conditioning treatments will put the moisture back in your hair- that is what your hair is now lacking.. moisture.
    Hope this helps

    OK thanks for that.
My natural colour is medium brown, so I wouldn't want to lighten it to a blonde colour with bleach or anything. I think I'll just leave it to fade out, and condition it regularly. I realise now that semi-permanent would have been better, but I forgot how it changes the condition of your hair so much! Anyway thanks, emm

As a professional hairdresser, I recommend visiting a salon with qualified colorists. They'll need to use a color remover, add a filler and then dye the hair to your desired color. "Don't try this at home."
