Hi there,
I have a very high concentration of white/grey at the top of my crown and it gradually lessens as you go down towards the ears. I would like to stop dying my hair which I have been doing regularly for about 5 years. I would like to just be grey where it is grey only. How do I do this without just growing it out and having a borderline of grey and dark dark brown!

Gray hair, known as canities, is caused by aging genetics, stress and other factors. You cannot stop or increase the progression of gray hair. Graying gradually increases over time. If you want the top to be gray and the rest of your hair to look dark brown, you would have to use a hair coloring product on the section that you want to stay dark brown. There are temporary and semi-permanent hair color that you can use if you don't want to commit to a permanent hair color.

Thank you for such a quick reply! I think I phrased this question incorrectly! What I want to do is just get rid of the dye-some permanament (roots touch up- cannot remember the name but it is just for roots, something to do between colourings) and semi-perm and demi perm... done them all lol. In any case, if I remove this colouring will my hair be grey not just at the roots? If this is so, I would like to do this but not sure how and then just let myself continue to grow grey naturally. As it is, the top of my head at my crown and along my part is completely white/grey, about 4 inches across the top of my head. From there is lessens to about 40%, 30% grey as you descend down towards my ears... does that make sense? I hope this is not too confusing!

If it's a between hair color, you probably used a semi-permanent color. A semi-permanent color will last from 24-28 washes. If the color hasn't faded yet, I recommend that you wait a little longer until your hair is back to its natural color. Because if you use a hair color removal product, it will make your hair raw and brassy, and it won't return to it's natural color. You can make the color fade faster by using a dandruff shampoo or dish detergent. Be sure to use a condition afterwards.
