How do i darken light blonde hair

hello I got some awfully light blonde highlights yesterday, 2 huge chunks on my sides and my whole back is blonde blonde. It's too much for my skin tone. I just don't look right. I have had dark blonde hair before. I'm wondering if I can just buy a dark blonde hair dye and dye over the really bright ones or will this damage my hair. I was going to try a really light brown, but I heard it would turn green. Does anyone got an idea? Thank you.

Highlights should never be more than 2 shades lighter than the rest of your hair. Highlights should compliment your natural or artificial color. If you go more than 3 shades lighter then the rest of your hair color, it will end up looking unnatural. You may use a permanent color over your highlights to tone it down, but try to choose a color that's a shade or two darker than your highlights. You can also ask your hairstylist about lowlights, which are slightly darker shades that add contrast to your overall color.
