How can I lighten dyed black hair? Can I ever dye it light brown again?
Hi! I've read a couple of posts on this subject but I was wondering...

I dyed my hair dark brown but it turned out blue-black. I rushed to the store and bought Color Oops! (it's supposed to reverse the dye and bring you back to your original hair color) and it lightened and I thought my nightmare was over until I woke up the next morning. My hair had turned black again. It wasn't quite as black as it was before Color Oops but it was still black. I then went to a beauty supply store and the sales person told me to use Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo levels three and two (she said using both at the same time would make it a level five clarifying shampoo.? ). Anyway, I ran home and washed my hair twice but it's still black. I'm going to keep trying the shampoo but is there any way that someday I'll be able to dye my hair medium brown again without having to go to the salon and have it stripped? Can I just wait for the black to fade?? It happened to my mom before (black hair) and now she has brown hair. I know she never went to the salon for it. How can I do the same thing? Can I use Nice n' Easy hair dye formulated for "dark hair"?? The Nice n' Easy product is supposed to lighten dark hair.

If you have your heart set on having light brown hair, you will need to pre-lighten your hair with bleach to a yellow stage and then apply the desired color. Using a high-lift brown color may lift the color a few shades lighter, but it could result in brassy tones. If you are trying to go more than 3 shades lighter, you should consider going to a salon and get it professional done.
