I have black hair and I really want to go back to brown. Help?

I've been dying my hair recently.
First, I went to a red color, and then I made the biggest mistake of my life. I DYED IT BLACK. And now, I want to go back to brown. I don't really want to go to the salon. And I don't want to kill my hair, because it's my favorite part about me. I'm also worried that all of this dying is killing my hair and preventing it from growing any longer.
Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi there,

Try this. Since you dyed it balck get a color that says "Mango" or Auburn color and it will turn a rich beautiful brown. But keep in mind leave it longer then time desired and extra 10 minutes will not hurt. Not longer. All the best. - Panther Forest

No don't get another color u can't dye a lighter color on top of a darker one..that doesn't even make sense what u need to do us simply go get some color oops u can find it almost anywhere it will take the color out of ur hair and leave it a redish orange..then u just due it a shade or two lighter than the color u want..trust me the same thing happened to me and Iam never going for black ever again!
