Hair Color issue

My Natural hair color is dirty Blond/light brown (has red tones)- I have dyed my hair for years to blonde and I love it but my roots come in and now I would like to maybe highlight my hair with my natural hair colour leaving the blonde as my main color. when I try and do this this I only get red, not brown- I hate it- I want to be able to dye my hair light brown without getting any red tones at all- how can I accomplish this? Is there a way to do this and bypass getting the red tones in my natural hair color? Help!

If you try to go from a darker color to a lighter color using a single process at-home hair color, it will result in red tones or an unpleasant color. You would have to lighten your hair with bleach and then deposit the desired color or use a high lift volume peroxide developer with your selected to color to achieve the color you want. To avoid another hair disaster, I recommend that you get your hair professionally done.
