Very tall order. It's not possible to dye black hair to honey blonde without using bleach.

I like the brand Clairol Perfect 10.
Perfect 10 is a permanent haircoloring that uses strong peroxide. It won't lift black hair to honey blonde, either -- even if you select the honey blonde shade!

Yes, it will dye your hair lighter and no, it won't come out. It will have to grow out.

All hair dyes damage the hair -- at least a little bit. Often, the damage is unnoticeable. Dyeing over it is not easy. It takes a bit of skill and understanding of the chemistry involved.

One system of evaluating color puts hair lightness in 10 levels. A level 1 is black. Level 10 is very light blonde. There are lots of levels in between. This is only for lightness and not shade. The lightest that Clairol Perfect 10 can lighten black hair (using the lightest shade they make) is about a level 5, maybe darker. Natural Level 5 hair is medium brown. But, the medium brown you would get would have a lot of red in it!

For what you want to do, I suggest trying on wig. That's the only way I can think of that will work for what you want to do.

I agree, you cannot go to a lighter color without removing some of the color. You would have to get your color out to go lighter. And the only way to get it back to a color similar to its natural shade would be dying over the processed hair. Go with the wig, it's a more simple solution that won't cause permanent damage. And surprisingly there are a lot of really nice ones out there nowdays.

Use a deep penetrating conditioning mask on your hair. Or hot oil treatments. SO it won't dry so much.
