| Where I live, in Illinois, depending on what someones conviction was; the amount of time that has passed/good things accomplished in a persons life since their conviction, people can apply for waivers so that they can get degrees or licenses to work in certain health care occupations. Perhaps a similar program exists where you live?
How that came about, was because a number of years ago, the background checks for people working in places like hospitals and nursing homes became much more thorough and the requirements more strict for people to be able to work in those kinds of places. Some people who had already been working successfully for years all of a sudden were let go because of the stricter requirements. The problem was, that a lot of those people had already proved their worth and were very excellent at what they did. So, the state came up with a waiver program for people to either keep their jobs and/or be able to get and maintain the proper qualifications to be employed in a health care profession. |
