On a Geraldo Rivera documentary certain the USA special forces were required to eat earthworms as part of their training for survival in the wild. The instructor started by heating them on a frying pan and mixed them with eggs before requiring the trainees to eat them alive and completely raw. Geraldo ate some as well, both slightly cooked and raw just to prove he too could stomach them. So I guess the protein content can add up. But you would have to eat plenty. Also, the are no eggs pepper or salt in the wild. In any case, I wouldn't mind their going extinct as long as their absence doesn't affect me in some drastic way.
