No pressure sprinkler system.

Asked Jan 27, 2006, 09:11 AM — 3 Answers
We recently had a sprinkler system installed. We have a well. According to the sprinkler guy, our lack of pressure is not his problem. Is there a way to boost the pressure in the system?

You can turn up the pressure on many well systems. Tom in plumbing does a very good job explaining how. Search in plumbing and you should be able to find it, or wait for Tom to post it again. It isn't that hard, but may not be enough. You may still have to add a booster pump.

I am not impressed with some body that installs a system that doesn't work as installed. Most well systems have lower pressure than city water systems. He should have known that and checked the pressure and either discussed raising the press

I agree with labman, the installer should produce the answer.
I have over a half-acre that is grass. My similar problem was not pressure related either. The problem was volume. The answer for me was to run 1 1/2" pvc to my valves from the main. And to run 1" pvc for all my lines. It cured my problem, that being RESISTANCE (or drag) not pressure. The explanation I was given by my local water company was that you could run a garden hose half way across the state and turn it on and after a while it would read the correct pressure. But, after you opened the valve you would get a short burst and then just a trickle. The pressure has not changed. It is all due to the resistance in the length of travel.
In your case you lines are already installed. I would suggest going above ground with 1 1/2 inch to the valves and do a quick tie in just to test this. It might help enough to solve the problem without have to dig up all your sprinkler lines. Best of luck.
