which mulch?

I live in Central Georgia. I have removed all the old pine straw from my flower beds that surround my entire house and I am trying to decide what is the best mulch for my area. I am thinking of cypress mulch or dark wood shavings, and want something that will last with a lot of rain and repell insects.
I do not want rock or inorganic matter.

If you can get eucalyptus mulch use that. It repels insects just great. Cypress is the next best mulch. The trick to mulch is that you have to keep replenishing it each year as it does deteriorate. Never use pine as it attracts insects.
