I'm bamboozled.

We have these incredible 8' high yellow annual flowers and no one can identify them. My friend who gave them to us also is unaware of their name.
I can send a photo of the flower and the leaves to anyone who thinks they can name them.
I live in S Ontario, and they just bloomed end of July (and subsequently ruined by massive downpours we have experienced in past 7-8 days).
Thank you so much - this is my first time on the site and it looks great.
Cheerio and thanks again.

When you said really tall yellow flower I immediately thought Jerusalem artichoke or Maximillian sunflowers but you picture looks like marijuana plants to me. Those can get 10 to 15 feet tall.

Marijuana has 5-lobed erose leaves and much smaller flowers. BTW, the seeds are nutritious but when used in bird seed they're irradiated so won't germinate.

DAHLIAS they are - just got it confirmed on weekend - there were photos of them in our local newspaper.
Than you all for the input.

Dahlias was Firmbeliever's response but you said it wasn't.
