Ground is always moist?

The trees on the sides of my house and in some spots of the backyard prevent the lawn and the ground around the house from ever fully drying. Theres algae and other unsightly stuff like mushrooms and moss everywhere in these damp areas. The misquotes are a problem too with the dampness. Is there anything I can use to dry the ground up?
Thanks,
