dip in front lawn

Anyone know why I might have a growing "dip" in my front lawn? The grass is growing just fine there, but when I mow, I notice the mower goes down in this groove and then cuts the grass real short on the rim of this indentation. I would estimate the groove to be two feet wide by four foot long and approx. 6-10 inches deep. ....PS we are not septic, we have sewers, in a residential development with approxiately 50 homes that are about 10 years old...Thanks for any help

sounds the the ground has settled from someone digging a trench in that spot. Maybe a good idea just to level it off and pack the top soil in right to have a level lawn.

In addition to the good advice above, I would like to add that maybe there was a tree on the spot at one time? If there was, then the dip may be caused by the roots decaying.
