RPG Maker 2003

I have RPG Maker 2003, and I have been playing around with the database a lot lately. My questions pertain to the transition from one map to another.

1) Is there a way to make the transition smoother?
2) Is there a way to pan from one map to another?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
