There are a few sites like this on the web. This is a different one than some I am used to . I have a hard time navigating at times. It does a great service for people, however, It is a little less organized and a lot less formal than other sites for which I answer questions.

Are you referring to AMHD? What problems do you have navigating and how are we less organized? I don't want to hijack this thread so please open up a new thread in the Forum Help area and maybe we can show you some ways to make things easier.

I don't know what AMHD is referring to. I answer on the American Payroll Association Hot Line and on some Human Resource forum groups as well as a couple of other expert groups. Most have specific categories and threads and you go to pick a thread or you are asked specific questions by readers of the forum. For all but a couple I have to belong to the society or group way more formal of an atmosphere, you can get by with saying a lot more on here.
Sometimes on here I #1 have a hard time finding the thread again if I want to add another answer, and #2 find that I am scrolling through pages and many times the pages do not load properly from pages 1 to 2 or 3. It's a good site and I am sure helps a lot of people.
AMHD is organized the same way as you describe. We have specific categories (we call them forums) and threads within those forums. So you can just open a forum and see new posts to that forum. However, we don't approve of asking a specific expert a direct question. We prefer that all questions be posted to a forum. This gives all members the opportunity to contribute to the thread as well as to learn from it.
Yes, we are more open here. We prefer to think of ourselves as a community rather than just a answering questions.
When you respond to a thread, you are (by default) automatically subscribed to that thread. Also by default, you are sent an e-mail whenever a response is posted to a subscribed thread. If you want to find a thread you have responded to so you can add something, the easiest way is to go to the My Profile link and list all your subscriptions.
Generally, when I'm looking for new threads to respond to, I generally just click the Answer button from the Home page. This lists all new threads or threads with new responses in order of most recent first. If you want to limit the threads to a specific forum, you can just scroll down the list of forums and select the forum you want. Another option, if you just want to monitor certain forums, is you can subscribe to a forum so you get a notice when any new thread is started in that forum.
