Disagree or report?

I'm new here, and have already gotten into more than my share of scrapes, but have a quick question: Are there any cases where we should not just disagree with a post, but report it? There's a guy claiming to translate English phrases to Latin, and I'm pretty sure I've caught him using a translator, though he claims to be an expert himself. He's already done a lot of requests, too.
I can just see his dubious translations showing up in school mottos and club seals. Is a red enough?

I'm not a Latin expert, just a language enthusiast. But here are my clues:

1. This person claims to be a Latin expert, but doesn't bother to write/spell English correctly, as in this answer:
" " ago vita vos diligo , diligo vita vos ago "
there u go! hope it help out??? i speak latin very fluiently!"

2. Though I don't speak Latin, I have noticed when I read it that punctuation is dispensed with. There is no punctuation in the latin texts of, say, the Septuagint. They call this the scriptio continua, or continuous script. This "expert's" translations DO have punctuation.

3. The clincher for me was the translation of this phrase: "The future destiny of the child is always the work of the mother."
He translates it: "posterus fatum of parvulus est usquequaque opus of matris."
Notice the word OF in the Latin text, twice, and in exactly the same relative position as in the English. That is exactly what a translating software would do with a word it can't handle; render it letter for letter. Plus, in this case, I suspect the word "of" doesn't exist in Latin, because their nouns have cases, unlike our English nouns. The form of the noun itself would communicate, "of the mother, to the mother, from the mother," etc.

I'd bet a Benjamin Franklin that this guy is using a translator software and taking the glory for himself. What do you think?

it does sound fishy. but i just clicked the "report inappropriate post" to double check it. and it says its only to be used for posts made in the wrong topic, advertising, or obscene/hateful posts. try asking a moderator or admin if there's anything more that should/can be done. or maybe one will come along and see this thread here.

You're correct. Matris means "of the mother" (Latin). I noticed that guy too, and decided he didn't know what he was talking about. (Thank you, Miss Wooster, for those wonderful years of Latin way back when.)

YoungHyperLink agrees: I thought so! and the green is for envy. Why was there no Latin in MY school?! :)
