The perception of the 'world' series is something of a misnomer though.

The series was named after a newspaper called 'The World' and this is what it pertains to; not the entire world.

It is technically called 'Association Football' though, in every country's respective FA.

Soccer is a nickname derived from the soc in association (football).

Been English and all I agree it should be called Football but someone from England created the word Soccer so we can only blame ourselves again!
