It does if drank in excess. Moderation is the key.

It can be true, if used to excess, just like J_9 stated. Any alcohol used to excess can cause damage to the liver.

But the same can be said about anything, if ingested to excess. It's just that alchoholic excess is a little lower than most things.

Just Dahlia agrees: what do you mean by lower?

In men over consumption results in abnormal liver function and a rise in estrogen levels-which may interfere with sperm development and hormone levels, Alcohol can kill of sperm generating cells in the testicles. 1 beer, 1 glass of wine or mixed drink contains @ 15 grams of absolute alcohol. Beer contains @ 5% alcohol, wine @ 12-15%, But Hard Liquors contain @ 45%. So these are the differences and why hard liquors such as vodka can cause problems, if over consumed. The potiential to develop toxic damage to the small bowels, muscle weakness and deteriation, depression of the central nervous system, liver problems, stomach problems, even alcohol poisioning, which is when alcohol levels rise to the danger point, thereby causing a possible loss of conscionsess, or you could slip into a coma and die. Abuse of alcohol is considered daily consumption of over 4-6 drinks. Moderation is the key....

Vodka has an unfair reputation for being unhealthy probably because of the short life expectancy of men in Russia, Ukraine and Poland. They don't live long because they drink to get drunk. On the other hand, people in Scandinavian countries drink vodka in moderation and they are very healthy, especially in Sweden, where life expectancy is in the top ten nations in the world. As long as you limit yourself to one shot a day and always drink with food, it can be very healthy for your blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels.
