Salad Ingrediants

there is a white meaty (think vegetable) ingrediant that you put in a tossed salad, and it actually taste sort of like meat but you find it in the vegetable area in the store. What is it called?

you can get a meaty-flavoured bread if you put bread dough under running water until you get a meat-like thing, and you cook it like meat. It tastes like meat, and its realy good!
