How do you make homemade cake not from a box?

Here a easy one: Yellow Cake
2 c self rising flour
1 1/4 c sugar
1/2 c shortning
1 c milk
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat oven ti 350 degrees, grease and flour 2- 9" pans. Cream together shorteneing and sugar. Beat in eggs, add flour, milk and vanilla, beat till smooth. Bake 20-30 minutes till toothpick comes out clean (insert in middle of cake).
